Former Mayor Ed Koch honored with new NYC landmark

NEW YORK (PIX11) — In this case, because it was once the home of one of New York’s most colorful and cantankerous mayors.

The event was held in the lobby of Koch’s residence, attended by former mayor David Dinkins  and members of Koch administration.

At one point a few protesters showed up shouting “20,000 died of AIDS and Koch did nothing,”  but were shortly escorted out.

George Arzt, press secretary under Koch, later commented that Koch would have appreciated the moment, as he welcomed controversy.

Today would have been Koch’s 89th birthday.
