NEW YORK (PIX11) –  New York lawmakers are making a push to legalize pot.

Democratic State Senator Liz Krueger introduced a bill Wednesday that would allow marijuana to be sold, regulated and taxed in the empire state.

Officials and advocates say the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act would save taxpayers money by reducing court and police costs.

Under the law, people 21 and over would be allowed to purchase town ounces of marijuana

They also say it would lessen discrimination in the justice system.
