BAYSIDE (PIX11) — This certainly doesn’t shape up to sound like a heartwarming holiday tale.

After receiving $600 in donations from parishioners over the weekend during a holiday bazaar, a bandit snuck into the closet in the church’s parish house and took off.

The incident is being investigated by the 111th precinct of the NYPD.

Even with a crowded bazaar going on with hundreds of parishioners, the thief walked out unseen from one of the side exits.

The money at the bazaar was meant to go towards a holiday dinner. Father Laurence Byrne of All Saints Episcopal Church told PIX11 News Monday what appeared to resemble a grinch storyline, turned out to be a heartwarming Christmas tale after all.

“This which is really the worst in people has brought out the best in people,” said Byrne. “We’ve had a number of people make contributions so we’ve made up I think almost all the money.”
