NEW YORK (PIX11) – Police are investigating the death of a person found lying in a Manhattan elevator shaft Wednesday afternoon.

A 911 call came in at about 12:30 p.m. reporting a person at the bottom of an elevator shaft at 24th Street and Park Avenue.

Police say the 67-year-old man appeared to be working on something and fell into the elevator shaft.

The man was the super of the building.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Mort Scheinman, who lives nearby, told PIX11 the building has been empty for several years and he hasn’t seen anyone coming or going.

Police say the man’s death is not suspicious
