NEW YORK (PIX11) – In 2009, at 17 Mariah Serrano was faced with a very important decision.

Should she amputate her leg for the sake of her health? Although it was the hardest decision she would ever make, it was the best.

After being inspired by Alexander McQueen, who designed athlete Aimee Mullins’ prosthetic legs, she knew she had to do it.

And according to Mariah the silver-lining was that she could finally wear heels, something she could never do!
