12-year-old autistic Bronx boy found safe after running out of school

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Officials say a 12-year-old Bronx boy with autism who ran away from school Monday morning is back home safe with his family.

School officials say the “high-functioning” child who has other disabilities left PS 188 in Morrisania.

But, police picked him up in Times Square for truancy and took him back to school.

His parents were notified.

Cops have been on high alert since 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo ran away from his Long Island City high school on Oct. 4. His family is still searching for him.
