NEW YORK (PIX11) – Arctic air will approach the area in stages during the weekend. The first cold front will come tonight. There could be a few showers during the evening hours otherwise clouds will decrease through the night. After reaching highs in the upper 50s today, lows will go down to around 40 degrees. Winds will pick up from the northwest at around 15-20 mph.

Tomorrow, the day will start out as mostly sunny but temperatures will not respond very well to the sun. Temperature will only reach the mid 40 by midday. It will also be noticeably brisk as winds are from the north at 10-20 mph. Skies will start to cloud up in the afternoon as the second cold front arrives late in the afternoon. That will make the the temperatures drop considerably.

Saturday night will be sharply colder as the arctic air arrives. Temperatures will drop into the mid 20. Winds will be gusting to 30 mph making wind chills in the lower teens.

Sunday will be bitterly cold with gusty winds in excess of 35 mph. Highs will only reach the lower 30’s during afternoon. Wind chill values will be in the teens for the city, single digits for areas north and west of the city. There is a chance that there could be a few snow showers that could perhaps give a quick dusting in spots. The best piece of advice to those who are going to the Giants game on Sunday is to bundle up.
