GRAVESEND, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Police are investigating why a mother abandoned her one-month-old baby on a Brooklyn street Sunday night, leaving the child alone in a stroller with a note and a cellphone.

The baby boy was found just after 11 p.m. on East 9th Street between avenues U and V when someone on their way home from work called 911, alerting authorities that the child was alone. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital where cops say he is OK with no injuries.

Police say the child’s mother, 21-year-old Alevtyna Savchuck, was found intoxicated and unconscious in front of the Gravesend Fire Department on Avenue U and transported to Coney Island Hospital as well.

Savchuck has been charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17.
