BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (PIX11)– A Brooklyn woman is suing the city and the NYPD claiming she spent five days in jail after she bought a soda.
According to the lawsuit, 24-year-old Catherine Cyrus purchased a Sprite in February of last year at a Bed-Stuy bodega, the New York Post reported.
After purchasing the drink Cyrus claims cops surrounded her demanding to see ID and what she bought.
She showed the officers the soda and they told her to leave. When she refused, she was arrested.
The woman also refused to let the officers take her fingerprints.
Cyrus was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration.
A police report was filed claiming that Cyrus was arrested because she tried to hit one of the officers. That claim was false and was tossed out by a judge.
