NEW YORK (PIX11) — For many Halloween is a time to dress up in scary or silly costumes but for others, they use the day to be the so-called “sexy” versions of every day professions or objects that aren’t necessarily sexy.

From “sexy slice of pizza” to “sexy lawyer,” a quick search online can pull up just about anything with a claim that it’s “sexy” and appropriate for a costume. If you ask some, it really isn’t any of the above.

“I really think that whole sexy thing is just an excuse people use to dress up like a slut,” Brenda Flores explained to PIX11 News.

Some of the many ‘sexy’ costumes for sale online.

According to Jason Sandlofer, director of store operations for Spirit Halloween in the West Village, dressing up in a provocative costume only has one purpose — to get attention.

“I think it gives people the opportunity to just be their alter ego,” he said. “I don’t know if they are trying to ‘sexy’ it up, but clearly that’s what everyone sees.”

One fun fact of this apparent trend is this year, sales of these ‘sexy’ costumes are down compared to past years. According to insiders, people nowadays are just making the costumes themselves.

In other words, be prepared to see a whole lot of home-made sexy come October 31st.
