SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A Chinese immigrant has been charged with five counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of a mother and her four young children inside their Sunset Park home.

Police recovered the butcher knife the suspect, Ming Dong Chen, 25, allegedly used in the bloody rampage late Saturday night.

“The perpetrator made statements alluding he used this knife to commit this act,” said NYPD Chief of Department Captain Philip Banks III.

Police have identified the victims as 37-year-old Qiao Zhen Li, her daughters 9-year-old Linda Zhou and 7-year-old Amy Zhou, and sons 5-year-old Kevin Zhou and 1-year-old William Zhou.

Chen, 25, had been staying with the family for several weeks before the bloody rampage.

Chen, who came to the United States from China in 2004, is a cousin of the family’s father, and had been staying with them for more than a week.

Police arrested  Chen at the gruesome scene, after relatives checking up on the family encountered him and called 911.

Lifelong  Sunset Park resident Bob Madden was walking his dog when he saw Chen being taken into custody in his bare feet covered with blood.

“He was just staring,” observed Madden.  “No expression on him.”

Relatives say Chen couldn’t hold down a job, and police are looking into whether that may have set off his murderous rage.

“He made a very short comment that everyone seems to be doing better than him.  We’re not really sure what that means,” said Captain Banks.  “That’s the only thing we have now.  Still looking into it.”
