WALDWICK, N.J. (PIX11) – In the middle of the night, Mark Spatucci drove to 13 Mary Lane, where his ex-girlfriend Mary Greff lived with the couple’s 10-month-old baby.

Bergen County prosecutors say Spatucci snuck in through a second floor window and went into Greff’s room. The two argued while Greff’s parents slept in the same home.

And suddenly Spatucci lost control and allegedly murdered Greff with their little baby in the same room, left unharmed.

“Everybody knew the girl and it’s a damn shame. She loved the baby very much. That I know,” said neighbor Antoinette Acampora.

Investigators reveal Greff and Spatucci started dating about two years ago.The couple lived together at a home on Harrison Avenue  and had a child this past February.

But the relationship went south.  Greff,an only child, moved back in with her parents with full custody of their toddler. Spatucci was granted visitation rights by the courts.

While prosecutors are still waiting on autopsy results to determine how Greff was murdered, they do say they believe she died of asphyxiation.

Spatucci is charged with murder, felony murder, burglary, endangering the welfare of a child and hindering prosecution.

He sits now at Bergen County Jail, being held on a $2 million bond.
