NEW YORK (PIX11) – For decades New York City Subway cars have been through different phases with different looks. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is looking to change that make the ride a little more spacious and comfortable.
A recent report from the MTA outlining the needs for the next 20 years includes a subway car that would have no internal doors.

Passengers would be able to roam freely and safely throughout the train. The shape would be similar to accordion-style buses. Authorities say the change will result in less crowded subway cars.

The NYC subway system is one of largest in the world and would take years to revamp.

New models on the tracks will last for at least 40 years, making the futuristic cars not a top priority.

The cost of the project is undetermined.
