HERALD SQUARE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A Facebook posting on October 16 may have been the first sign of trouble.
Tiona Rodriguez, 17, wrote on her wall she had cramps. A day later, the teen was at Victoria’s Secret in Herald Square with a friend. According to the NYPD, the teens were stopped in the store for shoplifting just before 1:30pm on Thursday. When security officers inspected their bags, there was a strong odor and they found a fetus. The fetus was also allegedly clothed.
A neighbor of Rodriguez said, “She was trying to hide the whole pregnancy. She wore big clothes and all that. To find this out was a really big, complete shock. The girl was not a bad girl.”
Rodriguez was taken to Bellevue Hospital and reportedly told police she had a miscarriage on Wednesday. Her friend, 17-year-old Francis Estevez, was taken to a local precinct. Both were charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
