NEW YORK (PIX11) – The government shutdown is over, and the political fallout has begun — some politicians, however, are trying to make amends.

U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo wrote a check to the U.S. Treasury Department returning his paycheck for the 16 days of the shutdown — $5,124.09.  Lobiondo (Rep.) represents New Jersey District 2, and said it would have been unconscionable to accept the money during the fiasco that left federal employees without income.

LoBiondo wrote in an included letter that he wanted the money to go to the “reduction of public debt.”
