Suspicious fire at Staten Island convent injures 6

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y (PIX11) — Police have arrested and charged three teens in connection to a fire set at a Staten Island convent last Saturday.

Vincent Calder,19, Christopher Sasso, 19, and Diego Tuso, 19, were arrested Friday morning for the blaze at St. Joseph Hall Academy that injured four firefighters and two nuns.

One of the nuns sustained severe spinal injuries when she jumped from a second floor window to escape the flames.

Calder has been charged with arson, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief. He was also charged with burglary.  Sasso and Tuso were charged with burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing.

The suspects were arraigned Friday afternoon. Calder is being held on $100,00 bail or bond, while Tuso and Sasso are being held on $15,000 bail or bond.

The three suspects are due back in court later this month.
