Lhota, de Blasio to face off in their first televised mayoral debate

Tuesday’s debate, which is exactly three weeks before the Nov. 5 general election, could be what underdog Joe Lhota needs to turn his campaign around.The 60-minute debate will broadcast live on Channel 7 at 7 p.m.

Recent polls show that Democratic candidate Bill de Blasio is leading by nearly 50 points.  Lhota told reporters on Monday that his strategy for the debate is “to win.”If de Blasio wins, he’ll be the first Democrat to be elected New York City Mayor since 1989.

Last week, de Blasio declined attending a debate with Lhota and Independence Party candidate Adolfo Carrion. Carrion was not invited to Tuesday’s debate.
