Kimberly Matthews (Linden police department)

LINDEN, N.J.  (PIX11) — A New Jersey woman who had a beef with her puppy-breeder boyfriend killed four of his pooches, stuffing them in an Igloo cooler, police said.

The girlfriend, Kimberly Matthews, 26, left the cooler containing  the cold and lifeless 5-week-old American Bulldog puppies with a friend after having a fight with her boyfriend, Linden police said. Matthews insisted to her friend that the puppies were just sleeping, police said, but the friend called cops, who later arrested Matthews.

Police said Matthews had an argument over the phone with her boyfriend and had threatened to kill the puppies, according to an account provided by the friend.

According to police, Matthews denied killing the dogs but is being charged with four counts of animal cruelty, which is a disorderly conduct offense.

Matthews faces up to six months in jail and could be fined between $500 and $2,000.
