President Obama addresses the government shutdown on Tuesday at the White House

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Barack Obama said Tuesday that U.S. economic growth was hindered by the constant political crises over government funding that he blamed on Republicans, not the 2010 Affordable Care Act he championed that overhauled the health insurance system.

Obama on Tuesday urged House Republicans to “reopen the government,” saying they “don’t get to hold the entire economy hostage over ideological demands” of defunding or dismantling Obamacare.
