Attack in Riverside Park leaves 5 people, including tot, stabbed or slashed: cops

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) — Five people, including a toddler, were stabbed or slashed in Riverside Park by a man wielding scissors in a seemingly random attack, authorities said.

The attack, which happened near Riverside Boulevard and West 63rd Street on the Upper West Side, involved a woman who was stabbed in the chest and is in critical condition. Also slashed were  a toddler and three other adults.

A man who said he held down the attacker told PIX11 News that  he is “no hero.”

Geoff Croft of the New York City Parks Advocates, said this is the fourth violent crime in city parks in five weeks. The group has been calling for more parks officers for years.

The 43-year-old suspect is in custody at Bellevue Hospital,

The NYPD has set up a perimeter around the scene, as the investigation continues.
