A four-alarm fire has caused the evacuation of several apartment buildings in North Bergen, New Jersey Saturday evening.

Fire officials say the fire broke out just after 5 p.m. on the fifth floor at the complex on John F. Kennedy Boulevard and quickly spread.

PIX11 was told that there are 50 apartments in the building and everyone was evacuated safely. One resident said he didn’t have time to grab any belongings, not even his pets.

Officials are working to get the flames under control and say the building is in jeopardy of collapsing.

The Red Cross is at the scene, helping those displaced find shelter for the night.

It is not yet known what started the fire.
