2 children accidentally burned by unknown substance aboard Queens bus

(PIX11) – Two children were injured aboard a Queens bus after being burned by an unknown substance that leaked out of a man’s backpack.

The victims were on the Q53 bus on the corner of Metropolitan Ave. and Woodhaven Blvd. in Forest Hills when police say an unknown liquid carried inside a plastic bottle dripped onto the children and burned them.

Sources tell PIX11 that the man works at  John F. Kennedy Airport and was carrying a bottle of industrial cleaning solution that he was not authorized to have.

The source said the man is still in police custody and authorities are searching his home for more of the solution.

It is unclear at this time what he was doing with the substance.

The children are reportedly in stable condition.
