When one photographer began documenting the chaos that was 9/11, he had no idea what he would see or find or how the images would haunt him in the years to come.

Patrick Witty’s photo has become iconic. You’ve likely seen it — horrified onlookers in the Financial District on September 11th.

He began shooting the collapse of the South Tower when he decided to turn around. The picture was published dozens of times worldwide and last year, Witty decided he wanted to identify anyone in this picture.

He was finally able to put names to faces thanks to the incredible power of social media.

Six people have been identified. Witty tweeted his thanks to Anthony, Rodger, Benjamin, Ramzy, Alfredo and Wanda.
