Here’s a great parlor game, a terrific ice breaker and a real buzz kill on that magical first date. Now here’s the hypothetical. Assume arguendo some feller proposes to a gal, or guy for that matter, and he gives her an engagement ring. Later one or both parties call off the marriage. Does she have to return the engagement ring? Now, think like a lawyer not a human, not a romantic, not like someone with a heart. First, remember this. The answer to every legal hypothetical is: it depends. And we’re not talking adult diapers. Next, know your jurisdiction. Not all states have the same case law.
