13-year-old boy dies after horrific Maspeth car accident

A 13-year-old boy who was hit by an SUV while walking to school in Maspeth died at Elmhurst Hospital last weekend.

The terrifying accident was caught on video.

Francis Lu was driving his Honda Pilot down the street, when the car jumped a curb and slammed into Michael Gomez and four other students as they headed to school at I.S 73 on September 12.

At the time, officials said Gomez was being treated for minor injuries.

It is unclear if Gomez’s death was related to the accident.

Bystanders lifted the car off two of the students trapped underneath.

The  40-year-old driver, who witnesses say was dropping his own child off at school, told police he was trying to park but instead stepped on the gas. The man stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities, the NYPD said.

At the time, the driver appeared shocked and only said, “It was an accident.”

No charges have been filed.
