Jersey City police have arrested the mother of a newborn baby that was found abandoned in trash in Jersey City last weekend.

Rosibel Lanza, 39, is accused of putting the baby boy in a plastic bag and throwing him into trash behind an apartment building on Kensington Avenue.

The three-pound baby was covered in blood with the umbilical cord still attached after being found Saturday by a group of children playing nearby.

The baby is still at the Jersey City Medical Center where doctors say he is stable.

Detectives believe Lanza gave birth to the baby at home.

Lanza is being charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison.
