(PIX11) – At least 11 people were injured after a two-alarm fire tore through a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building Thursday morning.
The FDNY says a fire started just after 9 a.m. in a three-story apartment building at 375 Chauncey Street.
Witnesses say the fire was caused by a female arsonist who forced a door open and poured gasoline in the stairway before she fled the scene around 9:15.
Though the FDNY showed up within three minutes, the fire had already spread to two floors.
People were trapped inside and “were kicking out windows to get out,” reported one witness who was injured in the blaze.
One unconscious woman was pulled out by firefighters but was resuscitated. Four were in critical condition, two being treated for serious injuries.
Other than the 11 injured, the FDNY, neighbors and residents are “just glad everybody got out.”
