ROCKVILLE CENTRE, LONG ISLAND (PIX11) – Police have arrested and charged a Long Island man with the murder of a teenage girl whose partially nude body was found on a footbridge in Rockville Centre last Thursday.

Maxwell Sherman, 18, was charged Saturday with the second degree murder of 18-year-old Lauren Daverin of Lynbook. A judge has denied Sherman, who lives in Long Beach, bail.

Daverin’s body was discovered in a pool of blood at about 10 p.m. Thursday evening on the Mill Pond footbridge, which is strewn with garbage and graffiti and overgrown by bushes and trees.

The Daily News is reporting that the young girl was found by two brothers, who had seen her earlier that night smoking and drinking with a group of young people.

Family and friends have posted photos and messages to the slain girl on a “RIP Lauren Daverin” Facebook page.
