NEW YORK (PIX11) — That’s right people of Gotham! Ben Affleck has been cast as the new Batman in the sequel to “Man of Steel.”

The news sent shock waves over Twitter, unleashing a series of tweets lashing out at the star.

“Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to Daredevil and Gigli,” said one user.

The tongue-in-cheek remark was just one of many that sent Twitter into a tizzy.

Comic book fans at Midtown Comics has more or less the same sentiment.

“I think he’s not very cool. I think he’s been doing a lot of things recently like Argo and The Town,” said Brian Morrissey. “But up until this point, it was “Gigli” and “Jersey Girl.”

Despite all the hate for Affleck, “Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is standing by his ‘Batman.’

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” he said in a statement. “He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.”
