(PIX11) – Ten years ago, a power outage crippled New York City and much of the northeast, as well as parts of Canada.

On August 14th, 2003, a damaged power line in Cleveland set off a chain reaction that led to the massive blackout.

More than 50 million customers in the U.S. and Canada lost power.

Electricity experts say a similar event is far less likely to happen in the today.
