Scientists are always looking for a cause for autism and they think they may have found a connection with induced labor.
According to a new study, having labor that is induced or augmented may increase the risk of having a child with autism.
For the study, researchers looked at more than 625,000 births and found mothers who had induced labor were 13% more likely to have a child with autism and those that had augmented labor were 16% more likely.
If they have both, their autism risk was increased by 23 percent. The researchers estimate that two out of every 1000 autism cases in boys could potentially be prevented by not inducing labor.
But this doesn’t mean women should avoid induction or augmentation.
In fact, doctors are cautioning against that. You may want to look at other natural alternatives but if none of that is working and the option is induction or C-section, you’re better off with induction because a C-section has negative effects on both the mother and baby.
