I first visited Hawks Cay Resort, on Duck Key, in the Florida Keys five years ago and enjoyed it so much I included it in my book Travel Therapy: Where Do You Need to Go?, as a top pick for families and anyone looking for a long list of cool activities to do or as a top place to go where you can just relax and do nothing at all.
Hawks Cay is set on sixty lush tropical acres where you have 177 guestrooms and close to 250 villas, six swimming pools, a private lagoon, an award-winning spa, tennis, unique restaurants with tasty dishes, bars and a marina offering up just about every kind of water sport you can imagine.
So when I heard about Hawks Cay doing a wonderful Heroes Welcome promotion to honor past and present military members, fire and rescue, law enforcement and medical personnel offering savings up to 40 percent off their stay and many activities, I knew it was time to return to the resort to check it out!
Kicking off Labor Day Weekend and running through November (See below for Labor Day weekend special activities and links to special discounts), the Hawks Cay’s Heroes Welcome program includes a long list of really fun complimentary activities guests can participate in like Kayak Relays for the entire family and the always entertaining balloon tosses. Another favorite, patriotic movies under the stars by the pool and a weekly outdoor Heroes’ Tribute ceremony where guests are encouraged to send in photos of their own heroes to be included in the tribute.
I also appreciate that Hawks Cay is also offering a 20% discount to civilians who donate two-dollars or more to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. This way everyone can get involved in the Heroes Welcome program and have a wonderful vacation while saying thank you to all the heroes who help make the world we live in a safer, healthier place.
When it comes to planning your trip to Hawks Cay there are so many unique things you can do but here are some of my personal favorites. I really enjoyed the Dolphin Connection where it’s all about interacting with four adorable Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins where you actually get to go into the water with them and learn more about these fascinating creatures. This up close and personal experience is truly magical.
For a sky-high adventure I loved parasailing where your boat leaves right from the Hawks Cay marina. It’s an excellent way to take in some spectacular scenery. For other water sports you can also go fishing, diving, snorkeling, sailing, boating, kayaking, kiteboarding or stand-up paddling. I told you there was a lot to do here!
When you’re ready to relax don’t miss getting a treatment at the resort’s Calm Waters Spa. I tried the 100-minute Pineapple Sugar Scrub and Signature Massage that left me feeling completely rejuvenated and my skin baby soft.
For dining options Hawks Cay has some great variety. You can wiggle your toes in the sand while you eat at the casual Beach Grill. One of my favorite dishes here is this giant pail of fresh Florida shrimp.
Or you can head over to Ocean, a light and bright open space where they serve three meals a day inside or outside by the pool or fire pit. Specialties here include fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes. Another favorite, Alma restaurant, set in a refined but friendly atmosphere where Chef Trevor spoiled me with some of his delicious Latin inspired creations including some of the best ceviche I’ve ever had.
Also don’t miss trying some of the creative signature cocktails at Hawk’s Cay’s different bars. I liked the Thirst Quencher, a refreshing gin and cucumber drink at Alma and of course a mojito is also a great choice because they’re made with famous Key Limes.
So if you’re looking for unique and memorable tropical island getaway don’t miss checking out all that Hawks Cay Resort has to offer in the Florida Keys and all the special savings right now. If you’re a past or present military members, fire and rescue, law enforcement or medical personnel you don’t want to miss Hawks Cay’s special Heroes Welcome program that has so many great discounts for you through November.
If you’re a civilian this is also your chance to give back and say ‘Thank You’ by donating to a great cause and getting your own special savings. All the discounts are pretty spectacular so be sure to click on the links below to get you started on planning your Heroes Welcome vacation!
