Poughkeepsie man convicted of operating ‘sex tours’ in Southeast Asia

(PIX11) – A Dutchess County man was convicted Monday of promoting prostitution after investigators caught him operating “sex tours” in Southeast Asia under the guise of a tourism site he ran.

Douglas Allen of Poughkeepsie owned and operated Big Apple Oriental Tours (boatours.com), which offered “tourism” packages to Southeast Asian countries, primarily The Philippines and Thailand.

douglas allen (2)An undercover investigator contacted Allen in July of 2010, requesting Allen’s help in going overseas to have sex for money.

Allen created a detailed itinerary for the investigator, which included an escort “guide” to Angeles City, a spot infamous for strip clubs and go-go bars. He also gave tips on how to find prostitutes and how to negotiate prices for “services.” Allen accepted $2,500 in payment for the illicit tour.

He was arrested and charged in December of 2010.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 15. Allen faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
