Four men arrested for anti-gay attack on Long Island

coptape(PIX11) – Four men were arrested in Babylon early Sunday morning after severely beating two men while using gay slurs.

Suffolk County police say at about 3:30 a.m, Gregory Gilbert, 20, Shane Buckley, 18, Nicholas Battaglia, 18, and Justin Buckley, 17, approached two men near Deer Park Avenue, asking for directions to the train station. The four then attacked the pair, punching and kicking them while shouting gay slurs.

A bystander witnessed the attacked and called 911.

The victims were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. One of the men was treated and released, while the other remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Gilbert, Battaglia and Shane Buckley were each charged with two counts of assault in the third degree as a hate crime and one count of gang assault in the second degree. Justin Buckley was charged with two counts of assault in the third degree as a hate crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
