HAMILTON HEIGHTS (PIX11) — Twelve firefighters have suffered burns or heat exhaustion while battling a blaze in Hamilton Heights that consumed the top floor of an apartment building.

The 34 families that have been displaced are being aided by the Red Cross on the scene.

The fire started Monday about 4 p.m. in a seven-story complex at W. 39th St. and Amsterdam Ave.
