QUEENS, NEW YORK (PIX11)- “I feel like a roasted chicken.”

Philip Swing like many people who live here on this block may be out of the pot but not out of the fire, they are stuck in sweltering heat without power tonight.

“They said they are working and it may be until 11 tonight.”

The power went out around six Thursday evening in Fresh Meadows on 197 Street.
When we arrived we found this Con Ed crew working to pin point the problem but hours later they called in for help, more crews, more trucks but still no juice.

“I want my iPad charged for mind craft,” said resident Michael Ni.

His neighbor Jack Bayin also kept a smile on his face, “its okay, it happens…”

In Jamaica no smiles, in the middle of the afternoon, power lines caught on fire. The heat being the culprit.

“The lines were burning in the street. They had to cut power to fix then turned it back on,” said resident Jonathan Diaz.

It took three hours to restore power. In Fresh Meadows a glimpse of hope; a few homes are back. Con Edison says crews will work throughout the night so no one will have another sleepless night.
