(PIX11) — Only five days after the original “Sharknado” debuted, Syfy announced that “Sharknado” 2 be filmed in NYC for its 2014 premiere.

The original “Sharknado”, a sci-fi thriller, premiered on the Syfy channel on July 11th to huge acclaim on Twitter and Facebook, if not necessarily in the ratings.

The social media “feeding frenzy” did translate to television viewers, bringing in 1.4 million and guaranteeing a successful second showing this Thursday.

Thomas Vitale, executive vice president of programming and original movies for Syfy, said in a statement. “The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that ‘Sharknado 2’ will be lots of fun.”

Syfy is allowing Twitter users to choose a subtitle for the new “Sharknado”.

The producers are keeping much of the new production under wraps, but what is certain is New York City will be the backdrop for more terrifying precipitating sharks.

“We’ll be announcing more details very soon,” Vitale said. “But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean fun, next year.”
