NEW YORK (PIX11) – The steady rise of e-sports in America just got quite an endorsement from the U.S. government. Now foreign players of the video game League of Legends are recognized by the federal government as professional athletes and can obtain visas to travel to the U.S. to compete, just like soccer stars David Beckham and Pele.
The company Riot Games fought hard for this, but eventually was able to provide enough evidence to convince the government that League of Legends is a legitimate sport.
The gamers say this is serious business and that are pros who make their living competing in these games.
The Staples Center in L.A. will host the final event for the Season three World Championship on October 4th. The winning team takes home the Summoner’s Cup and one million dollars.
