NEW YORK (PIX11) – The boyfriend of New York City swimsuit designer Sylvie Cachay was convicted in her 2010 murder on Thursday.

Nicholas Brooks, 26, was found guilty of strangling and drowning 33-year-old Cachay, whose body was found in a bathtub at the upscale hotel, Soho House.

Brooks is the son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, who penned the song, “You Light Up My Life.”

“Domestic violence victims all too frequently become homicide victims. Sylvie Cachay suffered a terrible death at the hands of a man who claimed to love her,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., said after he announced Brooks’ conviction.

During the trial, Brooks’ defense team claimed Cachay took too many pills and drowned accidentally.

Brooks is expected to be sentenced July 26.
