Major Outerbridge Crossing closures to begin Tuesday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y (PIX11) – The Outerbridge Crossing in Staten Island will be closed during overnight hours when major construction begins Tuesday, June 9.  The bridge shutdown is necessary for construction workers to repave the surface of the bridge, which links Perth Amboy and Staten Island.

From Tuesday until Labor Day the bridge will be closed from Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Friday nights from 11:59 p.m. – 5 a.m. Saturday.  The bridge will remain open on Saturday and Sunday nights.

After Labor Day, the bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mondays-Thursday; Fridays the bridge will be closed from 11:59 p.m.- 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The bridge will begin improvement on the roadway deck, curbs, safety walk, parapets and full pavement of lanes on both sides.
