Police are investigating the death of a construction worker Friday morning on Governor’s Island in what appears to be a freak accident.

Published reports say the 55-year-old man was killed when a strap on a 15-foot sewer pipe snapped and fell on him from a forklift.

He died at the scene.

Authorities say his son — also a construction worker — was standing next to his father.

He was not hurt.
