Sonia Nattie described the same sounds NYPD Officer Jamil Sarwar and his partner heard minutes before he took a bullet in the thigh.

Around 10:45 Thursday night, officers assigned to a Terra Hawk vehicle witnessed a man shooting at another here in the middle of the Cypress Hill Houses. Then officer Sarwar and his partner heard more shots while responding.

31-year-old Sarwar had no idea he was hit.

“Officer Sarwar and his Partner took cover in 365 Fountain Ave. That is when they realized he was shot in the thigh,” NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

It’s a shooting that forced a lockdown at the Cypress Hills houses: No one in or out, dozens of Police officers and detectives going door to door.

They identified two people of interest, but this morning they are back at it, looking for evidence, witnesses and the shooter

Many people who saw something are too afraid to tell, describing only what they heard.

Back in Cypress hills, no one is surprised. They say what happened on 4th of July is an everyday occurrence.

Now the manhunt is on, flyers posted everywhere offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
