The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Civil Liberties Union are suing the NYPD for their surveillance of Muslims.

Both groups say police violated the constitutional rights of Muslims.

The lawsuit accuses Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Bloomberg of keeping tabs on the activities of Muslim residents as well as sending informants to their businesses and places of worship to spy on them.

A lawyer for the NYPD says all of their practices were designed to keep the City safe.
