Long Island Rail Road riders are in for a frustrating commute Tuesday evening in the wake of Monday’s train derailment inside one of Amtrak’s East River Tunnels.

The MTA said 21 trains will be cancelled for Tuesday night’s rush hour commute and riders may be waiting an additional 15-20 minutes for their trains, due to the ongoing investigation and repair work  in the tunnel.

Customers are advised to check for updated schedules on the MTA’s website.

MTA officials say that the LIRR schedules could possibly be back to normal for Wednesday morning’s commute, depending on repair work.

There is still no preliminary cause for the derailment.
