Most lovestruck teens show their affection by holding hands, staying up all night on the phone and passing love notes in class.

But in Japan, teens have decided to show their love in a new, bizarre way: by licking eyeballs.

Videos uploaded to YouTube show teens licking their boyfriend and girlfriend’s eyeballs.

Oculolinctus  — dubbed “worming” — is blamed for the sudden increase in eye infections in the country.

Conjunctivitis or “pink eye” isn’t the worst thing that can happen from this cringe-inducing fad.

Doctors say “worming” can lead to blindness and a host of other ailments.

San Diego ophthalmologist Dr. David Granet told The Huffington Post, “There are ridges on the tongue that can cause a corneal abrasion. And if a person hasn’t washed out their mouth, they might put acid from citrus products or spices into the eye.”

Doctors say that if the licker has a cold sore on their mouth, it’s possible to spread the herpes virus to the eye, too.
