BRONX, NEW YORK (PIX11)– A night of child’s play took a wrong turn.

Nine-year old Amanda Chavan was shot in the stomach right in front of a building on Bailey Avenue in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

Witnesses tell PIX11 around 9:45 on Friday evening shots rang out and the laughter of children turned into the sounds of screaming.

Police believe the suspect is between 15 and 20 years old.

Police have identified a man they want to bring in for questioning. His name is Billy James Jr. He is 17-years-old.

Witnesses say they saw a man fitting his description ride away on a bike after the incident took place.

Police want to question a person whose picture was taken from surveillance cameras.

Immediately after the shooting Amanda’s father grabbed her in his arms and raced to the hospital even before EMS crews could arrive.
