Tragedy was averted after some quick thinking bystanders rescued a mugging victim from the subway tracks.

Police say a man was pushed onto the “E” train tracks last night at the 53rd and Lexington Avenue station when a mugger tried to snatch an iPhone out of his hands.

Several kindhearted straphangers were able to swoop in and help lift the man to safety before the next train arrived.

Police are still searching for the thief.
