Train derailment causes massive explosion outside Baltimore [WATCH]

BALTIMORE, Maryland (PIX11) — A ferocious blast prompted by a cargo train derailment rocked a community outside Baltimore Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, the derailment happened around the 7500 block of Lake Drive near 66th Street in Roseland at about 2 p.m.baltimore train derailment

As many as eight cars were part of the freight train.

The explosion reportedly caused several buildings in and around the area to tremble and even collapse. Plumes of smoke could be seen from miles away from the site.

Several images surfaced on Twitter soon after the blast.

It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any casualties.

Officials were still evacuating surrounding communities Tuesday afternoon.
