Elderly woman killed in car crash on Long Island

An elderly woman was killed early Sunday morning when she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a telephone pole, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Vera Quashie, 82, was headed home from her job at Berkshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at about 12:15 a.m.  when police say she lost control of her 2009 Hyundai Accent westbound on Route 109 at the intersection of Albany Avenue in East Farmingdale.

The car then struck a telephone on the north side of the road.

Quashie was taken to the Nassau County Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Detectives are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash to call First Squad at 631-854-8152.
