Metro North derailment to be cleaned up by Wednesday as investigators review evidence

MTA says crews are working around the clock and service should be fully restored by Wednseday morning’s commute.

Shuttle trains and buses will continue to run Tuesday for Metro North customers on these branches of the New Haven Line.

Amtrak announced on it’s website it plans to resume regularly scheduled service between Boston and New York on Wednesday, May 22.

“Amtrak applauds the efforts of Metro-North Railroad to quickly repair the tracks and other critical infrastructure,” according to the statement on its website. Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to this service disruption can receive a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some reservations booked online can be modified or canceled on Amtrak.com.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are looking at several components at the site of Friday evening’s derailment. The 18 cars were all new models.
